Hi, I’m Whitney.

As a kid, my mom labeled me a “voracious reader.” I had a constantly evolving stack of library books in my rotation each summer; I filled notebooks with stories and pictures; even my thoughts sometimes organized themselves into third-person (cringe-y) prose.

After graduating with a degree in English, I moved to Dallas in 2002, accumulated some writing experience in the mortgage and hospitality industries, and have enjoyed various communications roles in creative advertising since 2009.

Words are what I see first; I read the directions, the ingredient list, the article, before I ever stop to check out the accompanying images. Song lyrics have always been a huge deal. I would immediately know my answer to the question, “What song lyric do you wish you’d written?” way before anything like, “What’s your favorite song?”

Like how I assume most writers feel, I can tell when I need to get something out of my head and onto paper. The words and emotions start bubbling up and it’s just a matter of time before I know I need to sit down and bang out a story/article/post.

Writing for two award-winning parenting websites for five years was a great creative outlet; writing for The Mighty calmed the emotions choking my heart. Writing, communicating, encouraging others, and the urge to write, have all been the driving creative need throughout my life, and I’m thankful for it. I hope this site shows some of my heart through the various media in which I’ve written.

Whitney is originally from central Illinois but moved to Texas for love. After enjoying being a single twenty-something in Dallas, she settled down in 2010 and married her college sweetheart (the guy who got her here). She has two sons (2011 & 2013) and a daughter (2015). Whitney works full time as an Associate Creative Director at JCPenney, where she has been since 2009.

In 2017, she took a leap of faith and signed on as the part-time Managing Editor for Collin County Moms Collective, a local onsite parenting resource, managing a community of 20 freelance writers and curating a robust editorial calendar. In 2021, she took over both Dallas Moms Collective and Collin County Moms Collective as the Editorial Director, where she managed 40+ freelance writers, content creators and influencers until Fall 2022.

She loves Dallas—the amazing friends she has met here, the Tex Mex, the bluebonnets, the arts and culture, the mild winters, and having lots of family, including her in-laws, one of her sisters, and her favorite uncle, nearby. Her passions include writing, encouraging moms, reading, serving at her church, sports, (daydreaming about) traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
